The Job Network and Our Autism Job Club

Michael Bernick
Former California Employment Development Department Director & Milken Institute Fellow

This week’s Fox and Hounds California employment posting is a dispatch from our Autism Job Club. It links to an essay that was first published last week at Zocalo Public Square. In this essay, I discuss the limits of traditional job search assistance and job placement assistance, and the development of more extensive job networks, involving retention as well as placement.

When I posted last November about the formation of our autism job club (a project of AASCEND and its president, Ms. Camilla Bixler), I received several e-mails from other autism employment projects throughout California. From the ground up, a network of projects is growing.

The Specialists Guild is one of these California projects, training persons on the autistic spectrum in software testing.
