“Don’t Stop Believing” – The San Francisco Giants Won the World Series Championship. Will Democrats rule on Tuesday?

Glory goes to the San
Francisco Giants whose manager, organization, spirit and clutch players made
this World Series so spectacular.  The
celebration continues tonight at San Francisco’s Civic Plaza and at countless
bars in the Bay Area.  Will Democrats
rule tomorrow as the City by the Bay Celebrates?

Most historical observers agree
that when the Giants made the World Series, they saw the unreachable star with
nostalgia reminiscent of the last time the New York Giants won the Series.  That was during President Eisenhower’s
tenure.  Only people old enough remember know
that it more than 50 years ago.  I happen
to be one of them.  While I grew up a New
York Yankees’ fan (I was born there when President Eisenhower was President), I’ve
been reminded of this countless times this week by baseball fans and relatives
back east who held out hope that one day the Giants would win again, keeping
the old dynasty alive.  It kind of
reminds me of those of us who knew Reagan.
It’s the same "believing" feeling.

Best Play went
to Edgar Renteria – redemption for the 35-year old who belted in the 2nd
Giants run of the Series tonight.  That
single blow proved to be enough for World Champions.  Can you believe he has to play with Tim Lincecum,
Buster Posey, and all these 20-somethings?
Congrats to the old guy!

Best Question of the night went to Brian Bochi – Manager of the San Francisco Giants.
KTVU reporters asked: "You are the only San Francisco Giants
Manager to win a World Series.  Are you
going to run for Mayor?"

Best Pontification goes to anyone who watches politics and asks "Are all these drunken people in San Francisco going to remember to go
vote for Gavin Newsom tomorrow – or does this give Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado the
edge since he’s from So CAL?

Best Luck
goes to Assembly Districts 15 Candidate Abram Wilson – Can you believe all
these folks in Assembly District 15 wearing "Wilson" shirts?  After the game, KSFO reported from a bar in my
hometown Danville.  Inspired fans sported
countless hand-made "Wilson" t-shirts.  Hopefully
Wilson’s staff dropped by to drop off the authentic "Wilson ’10" shirts they’ve
been wearing.  The Series fans might be
talking about "Brian" rather than "Abram" Wilson but whatever.  Wilson may be the new boss in Assembly
District 15 on Tuesday.  Congrats to both
Wilsons on a great show!

Worst Luck
goes to California – We are World Champions tonight.  But ask your partying selves this – "If voters
stick with the same old, tired leaders on Tuesday – will we continue to have a
12% unemployment rate – and more importantly a 22% "underemployment" rate?"

Texas has one thing going
for it besides the Texas Rangers and an awesome baseball organization led by
America’s favorite pitcher Nolan Ryan.
They might have lost to our San Francisco Giants but that’s a short term
defeat.  Texas has jobs.  California doesn’t.  Southerners have a tendency to go with the
flow.  Their economy has allowed them to
do that because their Governor has made it his job to steal our jobs due to our
poor business climate and Texas’ favorable incentives to business.  Californians have a choice tomorrow between
the old and the new.  If they choose
entrepreneurship (Whitman and Fiorina), we win.
If they choose government (Brown and Boxer), we lose.  It’s as simple as that.  Vote wisely.
California just might choose the underdogs and win twice.

Endnote:  Meg Whitman
came through Walnut Creek a few days ago.
She gave out San Francisco Giants pins to volunteers.  My son Michael (who happens to play Little
League ball, look exactly like Buster Posey and is a catcher) got World Series
MVP Edgar Renteria’s pin.  Tonight, World
Series smile on his face, he said –

"Go Giants!  Go Meg Whitman!!"
